Horrific ending. Even Lucy, Rene and the producers realize it now. I like some of the several alternate episode watch orders that help nullify this disaster of an episode.

I remember watching this scene for the first time back in 2005 on my mom's DVD collection of the series. Still a heartbreaking scene seeing it again almost 20 years later. Not a fan of how it ended. It felt rushed and incomplete.

I will forever hate this ending. Not because I’m beyond an ending that involves Xena’s death. But, this part of her backstory came out of absolutely nowhere. It didn’t have enough development leading up to it to justify such a stark narrative decision. Narratively, It didn’t earn Xena’s death. If Xena and Gabrielle truly died at the end of Season 4, that would have felt more complete because it was developed and naturally led to that throughout the entire season. As is, AFIN is unable to really feel like a satisfying ending because it’s a random story with a sour ending. On top of that, there isn’t enough conclusion to cap off and commemorate Xena’s passing. It would have been good to see the impact of Xena’s life and to show that she truly achieved redemption. It would have been cool to see Gabrielle properly mourn her, how is Ares going to take it, what are Eve’s feelings? I think an episode exploring Gabrielle’s very complex emotions to this change in her life would make for a worthwhile story in its own right. In AFIN, Gabrielle is upset and cries and then accepts it..? It’s just too rushed and, again, not earned. I know I’m not the only critic of this ending. But just felt the need to vomit my thoughts.

I wish this scene would've included good Callisto and Xena reunited again and Gabrielle taking over for Xena on Earth. Xena and Callisto go to heaven together.

I actually bought the set like two weeks ago and I have rewatched all them just like I seen on television back the good old days.

Loved the show but it bothers me there is no background about how those people died like Callisto , solan , her mother , hope . This was a sad ending but didn’t make any sense .

This was my favourite show growing up. I loved greek mythology and to this day Mythology is one of my passions. Ive watched this show multiple times, infact i juat started watching it again lol but i cant bring myself to watch these last few episodes ever again. Once was enough. I cried so much and was so angry with how they ended it. I also felt the storyline was ridiculous and almost felt like they needed a quick way to kill her character. It just kind of felt it was out of the left field. I dunno. Itd be amazing for them to have a reboot with everyone, even if it was just a few episode season or movie. Except no Ares sadly. RIP Kevin Smith ❤ taken from us too young. Loved him so much.

This is the most beautiful couple I’ve seen, even though they never said they were but the hints were there and so was that tension. I don’t care what anybody says.❤

I must admit I really didn't like this episode. It was set in Japan, not Greece. It concerned an incident in Xena's past that was never mentioned nor inferred prior to this episode. There was no Ares, no Aphrodite, no Callisto, no one we never or had met before. I wasn't against Xena dying at the end, but I would have liked Eve to have come back and been with them - especially at the end. That final shot of Gabrielle on her own was just heart-breaking.

People fail to understand that Xena’s ultimate sacrifice that gave her the redemption she wanted was sacrificing a happy life with Gabrielle. The ending was perfect.

Xena knew she had to stay dead long before. This is why she was teaching Gabrielle the last few things she needed to learn. Plus Xena earned this death. She earned the right to rest.
